Nene Valley Harriers celebrate our 40th birthday this year, and we've decided to do something special to celebrate. We are planning to hire the track for a day, and will be holding various activities on Saturday September 9th.

We have set up a committee to come up with ideas and organise things. The current plan is to hold some open-graded 3,000m races at 10am in the morning (entry form can be downloaded here, followed by a team track and field programme in the afternoon. This would be for athletes past and present along with parents and other family members present to take part in.

It would mainly be a fun-based event with relays, unusual throwing and jumping contests, and perhaps even three-legged and egg and spoon races. Russ will no doubt insist on a game of rounders. Hopefully the day will be completed with a social do.

It would be great to get more people involved in the organisation and planning, especially children as this is bound to produce good ideas that we've not thought of. It would be good to have ambassadors from each junior age group. A boy and a girl would be ideal, but anyone who wants to help would be most welcome.

Any meetings would probably be held at the track prior to a Thursday training session, but please don't let this put you off volunteering if you are not a track regular. Parents are also more than welcome to help out in any way possible, both before the day and on the day itself.

Can any interested children or their parents please either contact Cat Foley-Wray or at Barry Warne.

We look forward to hearing from you!
