Notts Spruce Open

On Saturday three NVH athletes attended the Notts Spruce open meeting at Derby. It was a chilly and wet day but that did not stop personal best performances and club records from being broken.

The under 17 ladies had an interesting result with Alice Gibbons and Bethany Denial competing against each other. The ladies were throwing the new weight of 3 kg and as such the winner would have the club record and both ladies would record personal bests. Beth threw first and therefore broke the club record but lost it just minutes later when Alice threw. The girls recorded throws of Alice 7.94 and Bethany 7.43 giving Alice the club record.

Earlier in the day Bethany had recorded a personal best 100m of 13.85 and a long jump of 4.77 which although was some way short of her personal best was a lesson for her as with 40* competitors meant the best part of 25 minutes between jumps. This could occur in championships so was a good lesson for Bethany. Although I will not be thanked for mentioning it Alice cleared 1.40 in the high jump which was tough considering the weather on the day and she should not really be disappointed.

Georgie Ivens continued her preparation for the British University Championships with an impressive 200m, dominating from the gun. She appeared to stumble after being well clear and eased through to the line with a personal best and club record 25.25 leaving her well clear of the senior lady field. The plan had been to compete in the 400m as well but due to delays and the weather the 400m was just 35 minutes after she had knocked over 0.7s off her 200m pb.

She still won the race with a reasonable time of 58.3 showing her potential to reduce that club 400m record yet further and claim medals en-route..
