NVH athletes shine at Lea Valley

14/12/2014
Just an update of the weekends 'warm' action down at the indoor facility at Lea Valley on Sunday.

A small contingent of young athletes, including the young at heart went down to the Metaswitch Indoor open meeting at Lea Valley on Sunday 14 December and one athlete even delayed her birthday party in preference of racing.

New pole vaulter, old athlete Rosie Fresen competed in the under 17s age group for the first time and managed a club indoor record vault of 2.50m and was unlucky to fail at the next height. Rosie has only started training for this event after stepping in during the summer to score points in league meetings.

Another under 17, Megan Pusey also recorded an indoor personal best with a time of 28.94 in the 200m. Earlier in the day, Megan had competed in the 2 rounds of the 60m recording times of 8.78 and 8.68 which was just 8 hundredths from her personal best. The first round caught her off guard with some very fast starters but competing in the event as a sharpener for the longer sprints; Megan was not phased won her heat showing the later strength.

Jasmine Allen jumped 4.52 in the under 15 girls long jump finishing third overall but showing a good improvement from her first event at Sheffield just two weeks ago and recorded her second best ever indoor jump. Jas also competed in the 200m recording a time of 28.74 again being used as a sharpener for the championships early next year.

Late on in the day came the true youngsters of the club, Ricky Huskisson ran 25.83 in his 200m and James Thomas completed in the same distance in 24.25 an indoor personal best for him.

The Southern Athletics League fixtures are now out and there will be a short break from events over Christmas before the championship season starts - these athletes will be training over Christmas and the New Year to which extent there is a Hill Session at Hill Farm, Chesterton on Saturday 27 December at 11:00am - please park at the top by the farm shop. This is the opportunity to blow away the Christmas excess and has been well attended over the years.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
